How to install fire doors
The fitting internal fire doors is a far more complex process than that of fitting a normal interior door. As the incorrect installation of a fire door can create numerous safety concerns, you should ensure your door is installed by a fully trained individual.
If the fire door is not fitted properly, you would be putting both the lives of those inside the building and your assets in danger in the event of a fire.

STEP ONE
THE DOOR FRAME
When installing a fire door, it is essential that not only the door offers protection, but also the frame. The frame should meet the same requirements for fire prevention to ensure a valid installation, otherwise in the event of a fire the frame may not slow the spread of the fire so giving those inside the building and fire services less time to react.
STEP TWO
INTERNAL DOOR SEALS
With an internal fire door, the door must be fitted with the correct seals in order to stop the spread of not only the fire, but also the smoke.
As with any door, a fire door needs space within the door frame in order to open and close with ease; however, this does leave a space around the door for both smoke and fire to spread through. To restrict the fire spreading from one room to the next it is essential that you install seals around the doors.
To ensure the best level of fire protection the use of both intumescents and smoke seals can reduce the spread of fire and the spread of smoke. Intumescents work by the strips surrounding the door expanding in the event of the fire meaning the strip fills the gap.
STEP THREE
FITTINGS FOR YOUR FIRE DOOR
It is also worth taking into account that your fire door’s protection is only as good as the weakest link in its installation; therefore, it is also essential that each part of the door’s ironmongery offers the same level of protection, whether that is the door’s hinges, handle, locks or latches.

PROTECTING YOUR FIRE DOOR
Once installed your fire door will offer you invaluable protection against the spread of fire. That said, as with any other part of your fire protection, whether it is your fire alarm, fire extinguishers or fire door, it is essential that you get your fire door regularly checked to ensure the door would still offer the same level of protection during a fire as like any door it would be subject to wear and tear.
